Whey Protein and Leucine Supplements Increase Strength and Muscle Mass

Today's Supplement Tip : Whey Protein

Whey protein supplements promote protein synthesis, particularly when consumed before or after a weight-training workout. Leucine is a key amino acid controlling protein synthesis. An Air Force study led by Thomas Walker found that supplementing whey protein and leucine (19.7 grams of whey, 6.2 grams of leucine per day) increased bodyweight, lean mass, bench press, and push-ups but had no effect on three-mile run time or mental capacity. These results may not apply to well-trained bodybuilders, and long-term consumption of the supplements might not cause the same results.
